Safer Streets
To coincide with Walk to School Week, we will be launching our Safer Schools road closure initiative from Monday 20th May 2024.
From 8.30-9am and 3-3.30pm the area marked in red on the map, a section of Chelwood Drive, will be closed to vehicles (unless an exemption applies). Therefore, children and their families will need to walk to the school gates as no vehicles will be allowed to drop off.
Exemptions:
• Blue badge holders – when their destination is within the School Street zone
• Emergency vehicles and companies such as water and gas attending emergency works within the School Street zone
• Carers and healthcare workers visiting residents within the School Street zone
• Council waste trucks making collections and Postal service vehicles emptying post boxes within the School Street zone
• School buses and official school transport attending the school
• Public Transport within the School Street zone
• Taxis are not exempt unless:
they are dropping off or collecting a fare paying passenger who lives within the School Street
they are officially contracted by the council (or school) to take a child to/from a School Street School
The sole aim of the road closure is to make the streets safer for our children and their families. We therefore request that stewards and staff members who are on duty to enforce the new traffic free zone are treated with respect - abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
Thank you for your support.
